Forget the field, the wristband and the shuttle bus. A new breed of destination festivals is turning entire resorts, islands and mountain towns into dance music playgrounds, pairing international lineups with beach parties, alpine stages and island escapes. The location is not a backdrop here. It is half of the ticket.
From a five-star bay in Crete to a ski resort in the French Alps and a reef in the Maldives, these five festivals make the destination as much a part of the experience as the music itself.

Why destination festivals are taking over
The pitch is simple: smaller crowds, better rooms and a dancefloor you can reach in flip flops. Instead of renting a field for a weekend, organizers book the whole venue, cap the guest list and build the programme around the place. Mornings go to yoga, diving or the slopes. Afternoons belong to the pool. Nights run until sunrise. The music leans toward house, tech house and deeper underground sounds, and the lineups tend to favor selectors who can hold a long set over festival headliners chasing a drop.
1. Bateleur: Elounda, Crete, Greece
Dates: 22 to 25 October 2026
Bateleur takes over the Elounda Bay Palace, a five-star resort on the coast of Elounda in eastern Crete, and turns it into an intimate gathering for around 500 guests. The concept blends house music, wellness and luxury hospitality: poolside day sessions, private beach parties and sunrise sets sit alongside yoga, sound healing, ice baths and workshops.
New York house veteran Dennis Ferrer was announced as the first headliner, with Rafael and OMRI also confirmed. With capacity capped at a few hundred people and the whole resort to roam, Bateleur offers a slower alternative to conventional festival culture, one where you choose your own pace between the pool, the beach and the booth.

2. SXM Festival: Saint Martin, Caribbean
Dates: 17 to 21 March 2027
Launched in 2016, SXM Festival returns for its 10th anniversary edition and once again turns Saint Martin into an island-wide celebration of house, tech house and melodic house and techno. Beach parties, hillside gatherings, villa sessions and club nights spread across both sides of the island, so festival-goers end up exploring the destination between sets.
The first wave of the 2027 lineup includes Bob Sinclar, Claptone, Dennis Cruz, Franky Rizardo, Guy Gerber, MEDUZA, Patrick Topping and Sasha, bringing together big international names and underground selectors across five days and nights. More names and anniversary programming are still to come.

3. RISE Festival: Les Deux Alpes, French Alps
Dates: 5 to 12 December 2026
RISE Festival combines a full week of skiing and snowboarding with house, techno, drum and bass, UK garage and bass music. Now in its 12th edition, it spreads parties across alpine stages, bars, clubs and après-ski venues, which makes the French resort itself part of the festival.
The 2026 lineup features Sub Focus, Andy C, Chris Stussy, Hannah Laing and Silva Bumpa, alongside names like East End Dubs, Oppidan and Harriet Jaxxon. Expect a mix of club sounds and high-energy sets against a snowy mountain backdrop, with the first lift of the morning never far from the last tune of the night.

4. Your Paradise: The Maldives
Dates: 21 to 26 April 2027
Your Paradise has been running since 2014 and built its name on Malolo Lailai in Fiji’s Mamanuca Islands. It pairs house, techno, melodic sounds and underground electronic music with intimate tropical settings, and puts beach sessions, shared activities and island exploration at the center of the experience.
Its 2026 edition took place at Tropical Temptation Beach Club on Bali’s Melasti Beach from 7 to 9 August. The next chapter heads to the Maldives, where the festival will take over the Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort in Baa Atoll for six days, with capacity limited by the number of rooms on the island.

5. Soundscapes Zanzi: Zanzibar, Tanzania
Dates: 21 to 26 January 2027
Soundscapes Zanzi brings underground electronic music, deep house, minimal and techno to Bwejuu Beach on Zanzibar’s east coast for six days of DJ sets, beach experiences and cultural exchange. The programme pairs the music with wellness sessions, workshops and time to explore the island.
The 2027 lineup includes Andrey Pushkarev, Brawther, Dr Banana, Garrett David, YokoO and Zeina, plus a live set from Map.ache and a performance by Tanzanian group The Zawose Queens. It is a lineup that reflects the festival’s focus on underground selectors and a more intimate, community-led experience.

Plan the trip around the music
The common thread across all five is scale. These are not 100,000 capacity weekends: they are capped, curated and built around one place, which means tickets and rooms tend to go together and sell out early. If one of them is on your list, book the stay first and the flights second.
