Bonnaroo 2027 Canceled: The Farm Takes a Year Off After Back to Back Storms

Bonnaroo 2027 canceled: after weeks of silence out of Manchester, Tennessee, organizers confirmed on Friday, August 21, that one of the largest festivals in the United States will sit out next summer. The team announced a fallow year, saying the festival site needs time to recover after two consecutive seasons of storms. There are no replacement dates, no alternate weekend and no relocation. Bonnaroo simply will not happen in 2027.

For a festival that has run every year since 2002 apart from cancellations forced on it, this is a first: the organizers chose to pause. And for electronic music, it removes one of the biggest June bookings on the North American touring map.

What the Bonnaroo team said

The statement went up on the official festival website and across its social channels. Organizers thanked fans for this year’s edition, then explained that despite the work done on the grounds before June, the property could not absorb another season without rest. The Farm, and the main Centeroo venue in particular, “needs a break to rest and recover,” the team wrote.

They described spending a great deal of effort and money in the months leading into 2026, including improved drainage, 4.5 miles of new roadways and 135 acres of new grass. That work was meant to make the site more resilient to weather. It was not enough. The message closed by framing the pause as an investment in the festival rather than a retreat from it, though it stopped short of naming a return date.

Why Bonnaroo 2027 canceled matters for electronic music

Bonnaroo is filed under rock and jam band history, but over the past decade its electronic programming has become one of the strongest arguments for the ticket. The 2026 edition was built around it. Skrillex closed the opening Thursday, his first appearance at The Farm since 2014, then resurfaced later in the weekend for a surprise back to back with ISOKNOCK on the Other stage.

Four Tet opened that same night. RÜFÜS DU SOL headlined Saturday. Sub Focus, Sara Landry, Chase & Status and a sunrise set from Gorgon City ran the Other stage deep into daylight. GRiZ turned Friday into the emotional center of the weekend, closing with Ela Melo of Rainbow Kitten Surprise. SIDEPIECE, Cloonee, INZO, Big Gigantic, Daily Bread and LSZEE filled out the rest.

That is a full festival worth of electronic bookings inside a festival, and it now disappears from the summer of 2027. For touring artists building a North American run around mid June, Bonnaroo was a fixed point that other dates were routed around. Agents will spend the autumn rebuilding those routes.

Two years of storms, and the money spent trying to stop them

The 2025 edition was called off after a single day when severe weather flooded the site. The 2026 edition went ahead, but a storm on the final Sunday forced organizers to close Centeroo, sending thousands of people back to tents and cars for hours. Sets were scrapped and the rest of the day ran late.

Those two years follow a longer pattern. The 2021 edition was pushed to September and then abandoned entirely because of flooding tied to Hurricane Ida, on top of the 2020 cancellation during the pandemic shutdown. Four of the last seven editions have been either canceled outright or badly disrupted by water on a 700 acre farm that was never engineered to drain like a stadium.

Weather is now a line item on festival balance sheets rather than an act of God, and Bonnaroo is the clearest example in the United States. Similar pressures are reshaping events elsewhere, from insurance costs to the shrinking margins that recently pushed Rave the Planet to rethink its own model in Berlin.

The hole this leaves in the 2027 calendar

The financial impact reaches well past the ticket price. In a 2024 report, the Tennessee Municipal League cited festival officials putting Bonnaroo’s regional economic impact at close to $340 million, with roughly $14 million a year flowing into Coffee County alone. A fallow year means hotels, campgrounds, vendors, local crews and production companies lose an entire cycle of work.

It also opens a gap that rivals will move into. Bonnaroo is produced by C3 Presents under Live Nation, and a missing weekend in June 2027 is an obvious target for competing promoters and for the growing wave of single artist stadium plays and destination events, from Chicago’s festival season to Dom Dolla’s record breaking Auckland show in New Zealand. Demand for large scale electronic events has not softened. The venues hosting them are simply changing.

What happens next

Here is where the reporting gets thin, and it is worth being precise. Several outlets have framed the announcement as a pause before a 2028 return. The statement itself, as published on the festival’s channels, makes no commitment to a specific comeback year. Treat 2028 as the likely plan rather than a confirmed date until organizers say so directly.

The signs were building. Bonnaroo launched its annual fan poll on June 22 asking who people wanted to see in 2027, then quietly removed the post. On August 20, The Tennessean reported that Manchester officials still had not been told what the festival intended to do next year, and noted forecasts of further wet weather in the region early in 2027 tied to a strengthening El Niño system. No 2027 tickets had gone on sale, so there is no refund process for fans to navigate.

Bonnaroo 2027 FAQ

Is Bonnaroo 2027 canceled?

Yes. Organizers confirmed on August 21, 2026 that Bonnaroo will not take place in 2027. The announcement was posted on the official festival website and social channels.

Why is Bonnaroo taking a year off?

The festival site in Manchester, Tennessee, known as The Farm, was hit by severe weather in both 2025 and 2026. Organizers say the grounds, and the main Centeroo area in particular, need a full year without an event to recover.

Will Bonnaroo return in 2028?

Nothing has been confirmed. The official statement says the break will make the festival better but does not name a return year. Anyone reporting a firm 2028 date is going beyond what organizers have actually published.

Which electronic artists played Bonnaroo 2026?

The 2026 lineup included Skrillex, Four Tet, RÜFÜS DU SOL, GRiZ, Chase & Status, Sub Focus, Sara Landry, Gorgon City, SIDEPIECE, Cloonee, INZO, Big Gigantic, Daily Bread and LSZEE, plus a surprise Skrillex back to back with ISOKNOCK.

Who owns and produces Bonnaroo?

Bonnaroo is produced by C3 Presents, which sits under Live Nation. The festival has been held at The Farm, a 700 acre property in Manchester, Tennessee, since its debut in 2002.

A pause, not an ending

Festivals rarely announce a fallow year and come back stronger, which is what makes this one worth watching. Bonnaroo has the scale, the ownership and the land to try it. The question is whether a single year of rest can solve a problem that is really about rainfall patterns on a field in middle Tennessee. Full details of the announcement are on the official Bonnaroo website. For now, the summer of 2027 has a very large gap in it.
