Skrillex and Boys Noize sent fans a surprise teaser of unreleased material on the day of their Portola Festival set in San Francisco, and Skrillex later confirmed it on Instagram Stories with the caption “dog blood id mega mix 2026.” No title, release date or format has been announced.
What Skrillex and Boys Noize actually shared
According to EDM.com, the recording runs close to two minutes and leans on acid heavy electro and distorted bass, with a sample of Rihanna’s 2007 track “Don’t Stop the Music” reported in the mix. Fans first received a link by text message, and a Reddit user quickly posted a recording for anyone who missed it, as DJ Mag and We Rave You both noted.
The sources do not fully agree on the details. EDM Identity describes an 84 second preview shared through Skrillex’s newsletter, while EDM.com and We Rave You describe a roughly two minute clip sent by text. We Rave You also dates the festival set to September 27, but EDM.com, Riff Magazine and the 1001Tracklists entry all place it on Saturday, September 26. Neither artist has confirmed whether the material points to an album, a mixtape or something else.
How the Portola set played out
Dog Blood played the Pier Stage at Portola on September 26. Riff Magazine reported a 75 minute set with lasers, flames and heavy bass, opening with Boys Noize’s 2016 track “Midnight.” Skrillex pointed the crowd to a nearly full moon, telling them, “San Francisco, look at the moon!”, and both artists closed by promising to see everyone the next day, according to Riff.
Riff described the night as the duo’s first show together since 2019, while DJ Mag says the pair reunited under the Dog Blood name in 2024 after a break of nearly five years. Whichever way the timeline is counted, the Portola set was a rare appearance for a project that has released little in recent years.
Why the Dog Blood comeback matters now
Dog Blood started in 2012 as a collaboration between Boys Noize (Alex Ridha) and Skrillex (Sonny Moore), and its most recent release was the four track Turn Off The Lights EP in 2019, per EDM Identity. Since then both artists have moved in different directions. Skrillex released the EPs Kora in January 2026 and Soma in June 2026, leaning toward ambient and downtempo textures. A return to acid and distorted bass under the Dog Blood banner would be a sharp turn back to heavier ground.
Boys Noize has a busy autumn
The timing also lines up with Boys Noize’s own run. His album 7LLVSION, his first solo record in five years, arrives November 6 on his ONES and ZEROS label. The lead single “1+1+1” with ZEP came out on September 24, and the album features Brutalismus 3000 and ABRA, according to Resident Advisor. He plays ONES and ZEROS showcases in London on October 3, Paris on October 16 and Barcelona on October 23. Earlier this year he also released the self titled Nine Inch Noize album with members of Nine Inch Nails, per We Rave You.
Boys Noize was also billed for a back to back with SPFDJ at Parookaville this summer, part of a packed touring calendar.
