Daft Punk have released a new music video for Human After All, the title track from their third studio album. The visual was shared on YouTube on February 22, marking five years since Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo announced the end of the duo in 2021.
A Reimagined Look at a 2005 Single
Originally released in October 2005 as the third single from the album Human After All, the new video repurposes footage from the duo’s 2006 avant-garde science fiction film Electroma. The visual has been edited by longtime creative director Cédric Hervet.
Footage from Electroma
Electroma premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006 and follows two robot characters, “Hero Robot No. 1” and “Hero Robot No. 2,” as they travel through Southern California and encounter a town of robots. The film notably did not feature Daft Punk’s own music, instead using tracks by Brian Eno, Curtis Mayfield, and Todd Rundgren.
Continued Activity After the Split
Although Daft Punk officially split in 2021, the new video is part of a continued release of archival and collaborative content. In September, the duo launched a “first of its kind” collaboration with Fortnite, introducing an immersive in-game experience centered around their music and visual identity.
Thomas Bangalter’s Return to DJing
In October, Thomas Bangalter performed his first DJ set in 16 years at a Because Music showcase at the Pompidou Centre in Paris. The event also featured Fred again., Erol Alkan, and Ed Banger Records founder Pedro Winter, also known as Busy P.
A Legacy That Continues
The release of the new Human After All video demonstrates ongoing engagement with Daft Punk’s catalog and visual archive, even five years after the duo’s official split.
