A new comedy film centered around an unsuccessful attempt to get into Berghain is officially in development, according to Deadline. The project is based on an episode of the podcast Search Engine titled “Why didn’t Chris and Dan get into Berghain?”, which follows two Americans traveling overseas to try their luck at entering the famously selective Berlin nightclub.

From Podcast Story to Screen Adaptation

The film will star Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers, who are also set to write the screenplay. The duo are known for co-hosting the podcast Las Culturistas under Will Ferrell’s Big Money Players network. Much like the original podcast episode, the movie will explore the pair’s journey toward Berghain’s doors and the events that unfold when they fail to get inside.

Produced by Searchlight Pictures

The project will be produced and released by Disney’s Searchlight Pictures, though no details regarding title or release date have been announced yet. Yang and Rogers previously collaborated with Searchlight on the 2022 romantic comedy Fire Island, directed by Andrew Ahn.

A New Addition to the Growing Fascination With Berghain

The development of the film arrives shortly after the release of Berghain Nights: A Journey Through Techno and Berlin Club Culture, a book by author Liam Cagney. The book chronicles the author’s experiences living in Berlin, including nights at Berghain, and examines how club culture, kink parties and queer spaces shape identity and self-expression.

As interest in Berlin nightlife continues to expand globally, the new comedy film aims to bring one of club culture’s most recognizable legends, the challenge of getting into Berghain, to a wider audience.
