A new study has found that adults in the UK spend an average of £3,776 per year on nights out, including trips to clubs, bars, and pubs. The data comes from a survey of 2,000 participants conducted by credit card company Aqua, offering insight into the country’s leisure and nightlife spending habits.
How People Spend Their Money
Despite the high average, only 9% of respondents said they had spent money going to a nightclub in the past year. By contrast, around 35% reported spending at pubs and bars. The study also found that 56% of respondents had spent money eating out at restaurants, and 51% reported spending on travel or holidays within the last 12 months.
Over-35s Lead Nightlife Spending
The research highlights that people aged 35 to 44 are the biggest spenders, averaging £5,652 annually, or about £471 a month, on nights out. Those aged 25 to 34 followed closely behind, spending around £4,968 per year (£414 per month), while the 16 to 24 age group spent a smaller £2,700 annually (£225 per month).
Insights Into Changing Habits
The findings suggest that older adults are now spending more on nightlife and social activities than younger generations, reflecting a possible shift in lifestyle patterns and disposable income levels. While nightclubs remain a smaller part of overall spending, pubs, bars, and restaurants continue to dominate the UK’s social scene.
