The Music Industry Therapy Collective (MITC) has introduced a groundbreaking 24-hour mental health support service aimed specifically at touring professionals in the music industry. This free online initiative, titled Online Tour Health and Welfare Coaching, provides expert-led coaching sessions to help artists, production staff, and promoters address the unique challenges of life on the road.
A Timely Response to Growing Mental Health Concerns
The launch comes amid increasing concern over mental health issues in the music industry. A 2023 census by The Musicians’ Union and Help Musicians revealed that nearly 30% of UK musicians reported suffering from poor mental wellbeing. Long work hours, relentless travel, and unpredictable schedules often prevent touring professionals from accessing consistent therapeutic care.
MITC founder Tamsin Embleton noted:
“Since releasing Touring and Mental Health: The Music Industry Manual, we’ve heard from many tours about the pressure they’re under and the lack of support available.”
Designed for the Realities of Touring Life
The new MITC service is designed with flexibility and urgency in mind. Touring professionals can access sessions around the clock, receiving support for common issues such as anxiety, depression, insomnia, burnout, loneliness, addiction recovery, and conflict management. The initiative builds on the insights from MITC’s previously published mental health guide, which was co-authored by psychotherapists, psychologists, and industry experts.
MITC’s Laura Newton emphasized the importance of accessibility:
“We’ve seen firsthand how difficult it is for artists and crew members to access consistent mental health support while on the road. We believe this kind of support should be standard, not exceptional.”
A Step Toward Industry-Wide Change
By launching this free 24-hour resource, MITC hopes to redefine mental health care standards within the touring community. The goal is not only to support artists and crews in real time, but to foster a culture where mental wellness is prioritized industry-wide.
For those working in the fast-paced world of live music, Online Tour Health and Welfare Coaching offers a vital lifeline. One that could make all the difference between burnout and balance.
