Avant Gardner has parted ways with CEO Josh Wyatt, according to a new report by Billboard, as the venue’s flagship space Brooklyn Mirage continues to face delays in its 2025 reopening.

Taking over in the interim is Gary Richards, known to many as Destructo, who will assume day-to-day operational responsibilities. Richards has served as Avant Gardner’s non-executive chairman of the board since 2024.

Delays Continue for Brooklyn Mirage Reopening

The news arrives as Brooklyn Mirage navigates a challenging start to its summer season. Earlier this month, the venue was issued a list of required fixes that must be completed before reopening, per Billboard. In a separate report by Brooklyn Magazine, it was noted that as of May 16, the venue had not yet undergone a pre-inspection or final inspection to receive a Temporary Place of Assembly Certificate of Operation – a mandatory approval for any outdoor event hosting more than 200 people.

Memorial Day Weekend Events Canceled

The delays led to the cancellation of Memorial Day Weekend events, a significant weekend for the Brooklyn nightlife calendar. In a statement released Tuesday, the venue said it remains “committed to keeping you informed”, adding that it will provide updates about its progress and expected opening date by the end of this week.

Mirage Remains a Key Player in NYC Nightlife

Brooklyn Mirage is one of New York’s most prominent outdoor venues and a central component of the Avant Gardner complex. The ongoing delays have drawn close attention from both fans and industry professionals eager to see the venue reopen for the 2025 season.
