In a strategic move to enhance its AI-powered music creation tools, Splice has acquired UK-based virtual instrument company Spitfire Audio for approximately $50 million. This acquisition aims to integrate Spitfire’s high-quality orchestral sound libraries into Splice’s platform, offering users a broader range of sounds for music production.

A Strategic Acquisition to Enhance AI Music Tools

Splice, a music creation platform backed by Goldman Sachs, has been at the forefront of providing audio samples and tools for musicians worldwide. With over 600,000 paying subscribers and annual revenues exceeding $100 million, Splice continues to innovate in the music tech industry.

Spitfire Audio, renowned for its orchestral sound libraries used in film scores and by artists like Radiohead, brings a wealth of high-end digital samples to Splice’s offerings. These samples, including recordings from the BBC Symphony Orchestra and collaborations with composer Hans Zimmer, will enhance Splice’s AI-driven features that suggest samples based on genres or moods.

Industry Implications and Future Prospects

The acquisition reflects a broader trend in democratizing music creation and the growing influence of AI in the industry. By combining Spitfire’s rich sound libraries with Splice’s AI capabilities, musicians can expect more innovative tools that blend human creativity with machine learning.

Splice CEO Kakul Srivastava emphasized the company’s commitment to empowering musicians creatively, stating that the integration will allow artists to invent novel sounds by merging different instruments, moving beyond simplistic AI-generated music.

This acquisition positions Splice to further solidify its role as a comprehensive platform for music creators, mixing traditional high-quality sounds with cutting-edge AI technology.
